There are eleven (11) active ASCE student chapters within the Los Angeles Section. Each of these student chapters has been assigned to a Branch where they are supported through Branch student activities committees. The Vice President of Student activities coordinates activities across the Branches on the Section level.
It is through the activities of the student chapter that students gain the most value from the ASCE. One of the highlights for the students of the Los Angeles Section is the participation in the Pacific Southwest Regional Conference. At this three day event, the ten LA schools compete and network with seven other schools from California, Nevada, Arizona, and Hawaii. At the regional conferences the students compete in national competitions with an opportunity to move on to compete with other schools from across the country and from some parts of the world.
The student chapter experience is intended to supplement the civil engineering education through leadership training, practical application of knowledge, community service, and fellowship. It is within the student chapter that the student can get additional support that would otherwise not be available.
Take a moment and visit the web pages of our student chapters and see what they are up to. They are always looking for volunteers.
