| Details | https://www.eventbrite.com/e/asce-volunteers-needed-for-national-society-of-black-engineers-march-27-in-anaheim-tickets-16225341433?ref=ebapi ASCE Orange County Branch is looking for volunteers to dedicate a few hours of their time to inspire, advise and informally mentor the next generation of civil engineering leaders, during the National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE) 2015 National Convention, to be held at the Anaheim Convention Center. On Friday, March 27, 2015 from 8 pm to 10 pm, at the Anaheim Hilton, ASCE will host a Civil Engineering Career Mentoring program called “Conversations with Civil Engineers”. This informal Speed Career Mentoring event is designed to enhance the career awareness of undergraduate and graduate students seeking a career in civil engineering. We are specifically looking in local volunteers to represent the civil engineering specialty areas of Architectural, Geo Technical, Land Development, Structural, Sustainability and Transportation engineering. The time commitment is 3.5 hours on the evening (inclusive of a one hour volunteer dinner to be held before the event) of the event and a 30 minute prep teleconference to be held at the convenience of the individual Career Mentor volunteer, before the event. The ask is one we think is a fun and simple one:(at least for our stellar ASCE volunteers): candidly share your insights, experiences and recommendations regarding classes, career opportunities and planning for a career in civil engineering. serve as a “Career Mentor” (for a table of 7-10 civil engineering students), and guide the conversation around their specialty technical area there are two separate sessions, each lasting one hour each career Mentors are invited to bring to share and talk about any ASCE or technical specialty area information you would like to share in any format you prefer. (If you are interested in also representing career opportunities with your company, please contact me directly.) ASCE will cover/reimburse all parking and mileage and is hosting a dinner on the evening of the event, just for volunteer Career Mentors (6:30-7:30 pm) After the perusing the website, we believe that each one of you would be stellar Career Mentors, for the sessions.
