Details TOPIC - UAVs The ASCE Orange County Branch would like to invite you to attend the December Luncheon Meeting with a presentation on Unamanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) or drones. Typically, when you hear about drones or UAVs, you think of the military and a stealth way to monitor what goes on behind enemy lines. Today UAVs are being used more for different types of field surveys for civil engineering projects. An added benefit to surveying via remote control is it does away with the need of walking through potentially dangerous sites like highways, landfills and waste dumps. Some UAVs offer more accurate plotting than a ground-based GPS survey because it’s not possible to plot as many points on the ground. UAVs are currently being used to provide survey for the Califorania High-Speed Rail project. Speaker: Jackie L. Patterson Ms. Patterson is a civil engineer with over 29 years of experience as a consulting engineer. She is a registered professional engineer in California and nine other states.
