Lunch will be provided. This will be one of your last chances to get inside the Phase I area of the Middle Harbor terminal before its scheduled turnover to the Terminal Operator next month. Sign up now, as space is limited for this tour. The deadline for sign up is Wednesday October 15, in order to get the security clearance from the Harbor Security for all the Middle Harbor visitors. The Middle Harbor Redevelopment Project combines two aging shipping terminals into one state-of-the-art-terminal to improve cargo-movement efficiency and environmental performance. It is a nine-year, $1.3 billion project to upgrade wharfs, water access and storage area; as well as add a greatly expanded on-dock rail yard. The project will cut air pollution and add thousands of jobs to the economy. When completed, this terminal will have an annual cargo capacity of 3.3 million TEU (Twenty-foot Equivalent Unit). Project construction started in spring 2011 on Phase 1, and now Phase 1 is getting ready to be turned over to the Terminal Operation in November, 2014. Driving Directions(see location map below): From 710 South, exit Pier C exit to Pico Ave south. Turn right at Pier E Ave into the Middle Harbor and stop at the security booth to check in. From Ocean Blvd Eastbound, past Magnolia Street, exit to Pico Ave, turn left and immediate right at Pier E Ave into the Middle Harbor and stop at the security booth to check in. From Ocean Blvd Westbound, past Gerald Desmond bridge, exit to Pico Ave/Piers A-J, go straight at the end of the ramp and stop at the security booth to check in. Personal protective equipment (hard hats, safety vests, glasses, gloves) will be required on the tour. The following attire is a requirement for all attendees to enter the site: construction boots or work boots (no sneakers/dress shoes, etc…), long pants (no shorts/skirts), no sleeveless shirts/tops. Lunch will be provided. We hope you will join us!
