Details Please join ASCE OC YMF for a key note presentation on The Carlsbad Desalination Project. The presentation will be given by Mr. Joe Lauria (ARCADIS) focusing on the design aspect of this historical project, as a follow to the EWRI June Luncheon Where: HDR, 3230 El Camino Real, Irvine, CA 92606 When: Tuesday, September 9th @ 6PM Registration: Please use this link: http://carlsbad-desalination.eventbrite.com (Note: appetizers and refreshments included in the cost) About the Project: The Carlsbad Desalination Project is an important element of the Water Authority’s long-term strategy to improve the San Diego region’s water supply reliability. It includes securing independent water transfers from the Colorado River, increasing regional water-use efficiency and developing local sources such as groundwater, surface water and recycled water. Completion of the Carlsbad project will put the Water Authority on pace for meeting its diversification goals for 2020. Poseidon Water is developing the plant and pipeline with joint-venture contractor Kiewit Shea Desalination. The project will deliver up to 50 million gallons a day of drought-proof, highly reliable water that will become a core, day-to-day resource for the region. It is projected to meet 7 percent of San Diego County's demand in 2020, In addition, the reverse-osmosis plant will make the region's water supplies more reliable by reducing dependence on imported water. About the Speaker: Mr. Lauria has more than 30 years of successful experience in the direction and management of technical, marketing, engineering and financial elements within the water/wastewater business segment for Malcolm Pirnie and subsequently ARCADIS U.S., Inc. A Diplomat of the American Academy of Environmental Engineers & Scientists, he developed Malcom Pirnie's national Capital Project Delivery guidance document. He has been responsible for over $1.5 billion of capital projects for New York to California, and is currently leading active design-build projects throughout the U.S. He is currently the project director for ARCADIS' role as Contractor's Engineer for the design-build of the Carlsbad Seawater Desalination Facility, the largest seawater desalination facility in the western hemisphere. The work is being constructed by a joint venture of Kiewit Corporation and J.F. Shea Construction and has a total design, construction and financing budget in excess of $900 million.
