Join the YMF of OC ASCE as we build homes for families in Mexico. Corazon’s “Build a House in a Day” program takes a group of dedicated volunteers into the marginalized communities of Tijuana and Tecate and builds an eligible family a home. Visit http://www.corazon.org/index.php/en/ for more information regarding the organization. August 9, 2014 at 6:00am - Meet at 360 East H Street, San Diego, CA 91910. (MUST HAVE A VALID PASSPORT) From there, the volunteers will get instructions and information and will be divided into groups based on the number of houses that will be built. Volunteers should bring gloves, possibly a hammer, and hat/sunscreen. All other supplies will be provided there. The day includes cutting the lumber, assembling the house, painting, putting up the windows, the roof, and at about 4:00pm we deliver the house to the owners. From there, the caravan leaves, eat Tacos in Tecate, and then cross the border back into the U.S. There may be a shuttle for the day of the build to taek volunteers into Mexico and back, more information is to come. Volunteers will still need to meet at the Terra Nova Plaza Shopping Center. ASCE will orgainze a carpool for our members closer to the build date. Breakfast and dinner is on the volunteers. Lunch is served on site.
