Nicole Metzger is a civil engineer and oceanographer with twenty years of experience in hydrographic applications.  Ms. Metzger has worked as an engineer, an oceanographer, and has managed global offshore and subsea projects for private industry, academic and research pursuits, and the U.S. Navy.  Most recently, Ms. Metzger has been serving as project manager for various FEMA flood studies and has been engaged in the development of engineering analysis methods unique to the Pacific coast in current RiskMAP studies. Synopsis: FEMA is currently conducting a comprehensive re-study of the coastal flood hazards along the entire 1,487 mile coastline of the State of California in fifteen counties.  Baker is managing the study of seven of the coastal counties as part of a Production and Technical Services contract to FEMA.  Recent LiDAR topography and multibeam bathymetry collection have been merged into a terrain that covers the entire coastline and will provide the basis for flood mapping.  The two-dimensional wave transformation modeling for northern California is complete, and work is underway for southern California.  A full 50-year hindcast of hourly offshore deep-water wave parameters developed by Oceanweather Inc. provided the boundary conditions for the UCSD Scripps Institution of Oceanography’s Monitoring and Prediction (MOP) spectral refraction wave model that transformed the deep-water waves into the near shore region.  The MOP model outputs provide input wave conditions for the one-dimensional onshore analysis which includes setup, run-up, overtopping, beach erosion, and overland wave analysis.  The transect-based analyses result in newly calculated Base Flood Elevations (BFEs) which, in turn, inform the Special Flood Hazard Areas (SFHAs) that are mapped on the revised Flood Insurance Rate Map (FIRM) panels to which communities regulate.  This presentation will provide an overview of the study, methods, and next steps for the Open Pacific Coast Study.  Time:             Lunch @ 11:50 am; Program ends @ 1:15 pm Location:     Dave and Busters' at Irvine Spectrum, 71 Fortune Drive, Irvine, CA   (949) 727-0555   Cost:               $30 at the door, $23 advance payment by mail, PayPal or credit card, $25 registered but pay at the door, Unemployed $10 and Students $5 at the door with school ID                      For PayPal payment, please send payment to: HHTG_OC@yahoo.com Mail checks payable to "ASCE HHTG" and RSVP to:                   Mujahid Chandoo, EWRI Treasurer                                              14725 Alton Parkway, Irvine, CA 92618 Confirm:        Call (949) 855-7006, or e-mail to: HHTG_OC@yahoo.com
