The landfill tour features monitoring systems, environmental controls, coastal sage scrub restoration area and the landfill gas-to-energy facility. OCWR staff will also present an overview of the department and its work throughout Orange County. Presentation Topics: History of Coyote Canyon Landfill Monitoring / Environmental Systems and Controls Maintaining a Closed Landfill Landfill Neighbors Habitat at Coyote Canyon Landfill Renewable Energy Program Future of Coyote Canyon Landfill Presenters: Weena Dalby is an Environmental Engineering Specialist/Biologist at OCWR. She manages the department's biological resources, monitors sensitive plants and wildlife on the landfills. Weena also oversees biological resource permits that require habitat restoration in the context of landfill development. Weena has 13 years of experience as a plant restoration biologist in So. California. She holds a B.S. in Botany from UC Riverside. Greg Garber, P.E. is the site engineer for OCWR at Coyote Canyon, San Joaquin and Lane Road closed landfills. He managed solid and hazardous waste permitting for 14 years for the Oklahoma Dept of Environmental Quality and has experience in construction management and environmental engineering. He holds a B.S. in Civil Engineering from UC Berkeley and an M.S. in Environmental Engineering and J.D. from Notre Dame. Mike Kashani is the Renewable Energy Program Manager for OCWR. In his capacity he is responsible for all landfill gas-to-energy contracts and the day-to-day operations of the County's LFG-to-energy plants. His 20 years of service with the County of Orange includes both engineering and project management. He holds a B.S. in Industrial Engineering from Southern Illinois University. Sam Pascual, P.E. is a Senior Civil Engineer at the Olinda Landfill where he oversees site engineering design, water and air regulatory compliance and technical support for landfill operations. His 20 years of service with the County of Orange was preceded by experience as a senior engineer and project manage in the private sector. He holds a B.S. in Civil Engineering from Fresno State University. John Tzang, P.E. is a 30-year veteran in the civil engineering profession with more than 20 years of experience in solid waste management. He is an ASCE member and registered civil engineer in both California and New Jersey. John is currently the Senior Civil Engineer at OCWR where he oversees all engineering operations at the Frank R. Bowerman Landfill. He holds a M.S. in Engineering from Cornell University. |
