While productive individuals sit idle in shelters, or even move away, local building inspectors struggle to evaluate building safety in hundreds or thousands of damaged structures. Experience in dealing with earthquakes reveals that, due to non-structural damage, the number of total inspections can be more than three times the number of red-tagged and yellow-tagged buildings. Threats also exist from other natural and man-made disasters, including floods, hurricanes, and explosions. Most building departments do not have the ability to perform multitudes of such inspections in a short period of time, so a strong need exists to have a cadre of trained professionals available to assist local governments, along with a program to manage this cadre. Workshop Benefits: Comprehensive overview of Cal EMA Safety Assessment Program Learn about Mutual Aid Response and your role Study the concept of Emergency Operations Explore the criteria for assessing degree of severity of damage in buildings and lifeline systems Determine procedures for posting and barricading Develop your skills to use FEMA approved Field Manuals Find out about FEMA reimbursement criteria Learn the liability protection laws for responders Learn to protect your personal Safety & full lesson on preparedness Who is the Event For? Licensed civil, structural, and geotechnical engineers, licensed architects, and certified building inspectors are eligible to become SAP Evaluators and receive a State ID. They are invited to participate and become part of the statewide SAP cadre for potential mobilization during times of disaster. This class will also serve to recertify those whose SAP ID cards are about to expire or have expired. The price for the event covers a light breakfast and lunch.
