Details Topic: Irvine Ranch Water District Energy Storage System Speakers: Jacob Moeder, Senior Engineer, Irvine Ranch Water District Jacob Moeder has worked as a civil engineer for the public sector in the water and wastewater industry for over a decade.  Bringing experience from the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California and City of Carlsbad. Jacob currently works for the Irvine Ranch Water District (IRWD) as a Senior Engineer in the Capital Projects Division.  During the past eight years with IRWD, he has been involved with a wide range of IRWD projects ranging from the design and construction of water wells, sewer lift stations, and pump stations, to improvement projects at various water and wastewater treatment facilities.  His recent responsibilities include the management of improvements at disinfection facilities, construction of a new recycled water reservoir, preparation of IRWD’s Sewage Treatment Master Plan, and implementation of IRWD’s Energy Storage Systems. Jacob received his Bachelors of Science degree in Civil Engineering from California State University, Sacramento and received his Master’s in Public Administration degree from San Diego State University. Synopsis:  Irvine Ranch Water District (IRWD) is working with Advanced Microgrid Solutions to install the nation’s largest network of energy storage systems ever installed at a public water agency. This award-winning project, which demonstrates a successful public-private partnership, enables the district to store energy, making it available when demand for power from the grid is at peak levels and the cost for electricity is higher. Drawing from these stored energy sources saves the district approximately $500,000 a year in energy costs and helps to ease the overall burden on the local electrical grid when demand is high. This presentation will walk through the overall development of IRWD's energy storage system project, the factors that presented the opportunity for a private-public partnership, and the latest status of the project.
