Judges will work in pairs to interview students, evaluate their work, and provide feedback and encouragement. Approximately 600 of the county's best and brightest 6-12 grade students will compete for awards in over 20 categories and a chance to compete at the International Science Fair in Los Angeles. Continental Breakfast / Lunch provided and snacks all day! Judges will need to be present from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.  You will receive a brief orientation from your Team Captain between 7:30 a.m. and 8:00 a.m. followed by an opportunity to review the projects before the students arrive.  We will provide you with continental breakfast, snacks, and lunch.  Judging occurs from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon and from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Each hour each pair of judges evaluates about three students In the Junior section. In the Senior section, students will be present all morning while a small group of judges evaluated them for placement at the Fair and also to select INTEL finalists who will be interviewed  in the afternoon for 6 places at the International Science and Engineering Fair to be held in Los Angeles on 14th thru 18th May.  Scoring tabulation normally occurs from 4:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. We expect more than 600, 6th through 12th grade students from Orange County public, parochial and private schools to convene at the OC Fair Grounds.  These students represent some of the best in Orange County.  They will compete for OCSEF Board awards in 20 categories and for special awards from over 25 professional organizations and technical societies. Judging is the high point of the Fair.  During judging, students have an opportunity to describe their work to science and engineering professionals like you.  Judges evaluate their work and provide feedback and encouragement.  Our goal is to have at least 200 judges to provide each student with the most positive experience possible.  Judges play a critical role in the success of the Fair.  The job you do can affect students profoundly, sometimes altering their career choices and almost always influencing their attitudes towards science and technology.  Having enough judges to allow each to do a good and careful job makes it easier to ensure that the effect we have will be a positive one.  You will work as a team with at least one other judge.  You will explore what the students have accomplished and interview them.  Then, you will decide as a team which projects deserve what prizes.    For more information, visit the Orange County Science and Engineering Fair (OCSEF) web site – www.ocsef.org.
