He has worked on a variety of water supply and treatment projects for Poseidon including the Cranston RI wastewater treatment system lease and upgrade, 5 zero discharge projects for PEMEX refineries in Mexico and 3 seawater desalination projects, including the 50 million gallon per day Carlsbad project. He now has overall responsibility for the development of the Huntington Beach Project. Andy has a MBA from the University of Virginia, and a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of New Hampshire. Synopsis: The proposed Huntington Beach Project will be the first large-scale desalination facility in the world to include 1mm (1/25th inch, approximately the thickness of a credit card) slot width seawater intake screens and have a through-screen water velocity of less than 0.5 feet per second in an open-ocean setting. The plant will also include state-of-the-art diffuser technology that will ensure that the salinity level in the plant’s seawater discharge meets the State Water Board’s stringent new receiving water quality requirements. The presentation will provide an update on the status of permitting and the challenges of developing a utility scale local drought proof water supply in Orange County.
