The discussion will include engineering topics pertaining to residential development. Representatives from some of the top home builders in Orange County will discuss issues related to challenges in plan preparation and coordination in the field.  This would be an effort to focus on areas where builders and engineers can improve to plan coordination to ultimately make projects easier to build, which will improve schedules and increase profitability for everyone involved. Speakers:   Peter Kim, P. E - Toll Brothers Peter Kim is a California registered civil engineer and has over 20 years of experience in real estate development ranging from design of master planned developments, entitlements, CEQA, off-site purchasing and construction.  Mr. Kim joined Toll Brothers in early 2010 as a Land Development Manager, and is currently managing the Land Development Department as Vice President for Toll Brothers in the Southern California Division. Much of his professional design experience as an engineer was gained as a Project Manager with Hunsaker & Associates, Irvine.  He was responsible for the design of various large scale projects from concept plans to tentative maps and final engineering.  He was also responsible for assisting his clients with the entitlement processing along with obtaining environmental clearances.  Having gained over 10 years of design and project management experience as a consultant, Mr. Kim was recruited by Pardee Homes to handle several master planned development projects ranging from 300 hillside residential units to over 5,000 flat land units with residential, commercial, park sites, school sites, and fire stations.  Mr. Kim has managed the development of these projects starting from the entitlement stages through design and construction.  The latest 6 years of his career was spent working for Toll Brothers analyzing land deals from acquisition and developing them through design and construction.  He has been involved with several large land deals such as a joint venture with Shea Homes on Baker Ranch consisting of 1,780 residential units, the purchase of Shapell Home which consisted of roughly 5,500 residential units along with all of their employees and assets, and the latest joint venture with Lennar Homes consisting of 840 residential units at the Great Park Communities in Irvine.   Mr Kim received a BS in Civil Engineering from UC Berkeley, is a registered Civil Engineer in California, and is Environemntal Compliance Certified with CESSWI and QSP/QSD. Jim Holas - Shea Homes Jim Holas has 20 years of experience working as a Development Project Manager and Landscape Architect for residential developments throughout Southern California. Jim is currently Director of Community Development for Shea Homes and manages the due diligence, consultant coordination for entitlement and construction documents, permit processing, community coordination, project reimbursements, bond exoneration and HOA Board representative for projects throughout Orange, Riverside and San Bernardino County. Jim started his career as a Landscape Architect and was able to work on several master planned communities throughout Orange County and Riverside County. Experience gained through collaboration with developers and several consulting teams provided him the experience to jump into project management for developments throughout Southern California. Jim has a Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Landscape Architecture from California State Polytechnic University, Pomona, is a licensed Landscape Architect, a LEED® Accredited Professional and Qualified Storm Water Pollution Prevention Practitioner. He is also currently pursuing a Master’s Degree in Business Administration. Jim has been fortunate to have the opportunity to serve, through the Building Industry Association, on several committees to help streamline and improve processing through several agencies include the County of Orange, County of Riverside, City of Eastvale, City of Menifee and Southern California Edison.
