Details Come join LA YMF for a special bridge inspection presentation and tour of the Shakespeare Bridge. Mr. Steve Martinez, P.E., a bridge inspector for the City of Los Angeles will give an overview presentation about bridge inspection. Afterwards, the group will tour the bridge to practice their inspection and rating knowledge. The Shakespeare Bridge was built in 1926 by J.C. Wright and is 30-feet wide and 230-feet long. The quaint Gothic bridge features turrets and towers, arches and spandrel columns with three arch spans The Shakespeare Bridge connects Franklin Avenue to St. George Street and was declared an Historic-Cultural Monument in the City of Los Angeles (No. 126) in 1974. The bridge sustained major damage in the 1992 Northridge earthquake and underwent a $1.5 million seismic retrofitting before reopening for public use in 1998.
